Kris Wolfram, Brady's Foster Mom, will keep us posted on his progress as he learns that being near people is something he can enjoy and not fear.

In order to know how far he's come, it's important to know where he started.  Brady (aka Bobbi) was found huddled and terrified at the feet of the dead dog that had been left hanging long enough to have mummified in his kennel.  In many of Brady's pictures, you'll see him huddled against another dog for comfort.  I cannot wait to see him find his confidence and, if the situation is just too much for him, trust that his people will keep him safe.

This is Brady's Journey.

Day One
Well, we made it home with no issues in the crate :)  He was very quiet, but I let all the dogs come up and smell the crate and he showed curiousity about his surroundings.   He came out of the crate and checked out the other dogs and the backyard.  Everyone said hello and he ran around checking out trees, bushes, dogs, chairs, etc.

I then "cornered" him and carried him in the house.  He proceeded to pee a river on my kitchen floor :)  He ran around all the rooms smelling and watching.  I did manage to get him to sit on the bed with the other dogs while I petted and talked to him.  (I anticipate he will be sleeping on the bed shortly)  I had him sleep in a crate beside my bed, and could see him come up to the door to check out what was going on.  Of course, the minute I opened it, he would go to the back.

He was quiet all night, and I put him out this morning with the others.  Good thing Aussies are herding dogs, because the others would "herd" him around the yard.  He would run up next to me and then run back around the yard.  The biggest problem is he hasn't eaten yet.  I tried kibble with mackarel thinking the smell would entice him.   I left him crated today with kibble and cottage cheese.  So far, they all seem to be getting along well, but I didn't want to put him in the run with Gordy without some further evaluation.

I was a little worried about his reaction, but he has been a very good, sweet boy.  He is showing curiousity in things and doesn't seem quite so scared.  YEAH!!

It was wonderful meeting everyone this weekend. I am so impressed with what you have done with the dogs in such a short time.  The more stories I heard about the seizure, clean up, and what you are doing today to help the dogs, I just don't know how to thank you for everything you've done.

I'll keep you updated!!

Day 2
Well, it didn't even take two weeks.  He slept on the bed with everyone else last night.  I got him on the bed and then would pet and talk to him.  Eventually his eyes would start to close, but if I moved too suddenly, he would be wide awake again. I just let him stay on the bed while I got dressed, and then read a book in bed and he didn't move.  Several times I would just reach over the pet him, and he didn't flinch.  He ate dinner last night and breakfast this morning.  I left his crate open in my room, but he didn't seem to want to go in it.

I was calling him Baby Dog, and Brady sort of evolved from that and it seems like it is sticking.  Major LOVES Brady.  I ask Major to find the "baby dog" and he goes out in the yard to find him.  Last night I couldn't find Brady in the dark, and Major showed me he was in the doghouse.

Brady is very curious.  He comes into the house and walks and sniffs at everything.  He hasn't figured out the doggie door, but if I leave the slider open (brrrr...) he goes in and out.  Still doesn't like me to "grab" him, but we are working on touching, petting and then letting him go.  Today he is in the dog run with Major since it is going to be nice :)

So far, so good!!

Day 3
He is pretty funny.  he wants to be in the same room with us, but doesn't want to look at me.  Last night we had our first fight.  He was outside and I couldn't corral him into a corner to catch him.  He just paced back and forth.  Finally, I gave up and went to read in bed.  The next thing I know he is poking his head into the bedroom to see what's up.  I got a hold of him, stuck him on the bed, and he slept all night long.

Day 4
I need to get pictures in the daylight because his eyes look haunted when the flash hits them.  I do have some pics and will download them this weekend.  He is being such a good boy!!!   No accidents in the house.  I haven't seen him go to the bathroom, but am assuming when I put him in the yard, he is doing his business.  He is eating all of his food.  Last night I hand fed him on my bed.  He likes to be in the same room as me, just doesn't like me to come after him.  So I've been working on touching him and then letting him go.  He is WAY more curious than I ever thought he'd be this early in the game.  I figured he'd find a hiding place, but last night he was under the table with the other dogs while I had dinner.  And he is sleeping through the night right next to me on the bed!!!  He isn't curled up in a ball, but is starting to stretch out. AMAZING!!

Day 7 - One Week

I saw him wiggle a bit yesterday!!    He was joining in Major and Jett's play and his little nubbin came up and he actually got a bit excited!

He is eating well and still sleeping next to me on the bed.  Seems to be a quiet shadow following me around and sleeping in whatever room I am in.     No accidents in the house.   Just got back from the vet and he was a very good boy while he was being checked over.    The vet would like a little more weight on him, but otherwise said he looked healthy

Next weekend we have a playdate at pup a razzi with some puppies and I want to work with him on a leash.  But all in all he is coming along :)

Day 11
Someone had it right when they said one step forward and two steps
back. I've had Brady for a little over a week, and he is sleeping on
the bed already. He understands "are you hungry" and darts for the
crates just like my minis. He is eating well.

Couple of things I've noted -- he doesn't seem to know how to play.
I have minis and they aren't very playful as they are adults. We are
going to a small dog play class on Sat and I am just going to let him
watch and interact as he sees fit.

He likes to seclude himself in corners. He likes to be in the same
room with me most of the time, but he has figured out how to get nder
the bed or finds a corner behind a couch in the living room. When I
am home, I do not allow him in my bedroom so he can't hide under the
bed, and have moved the couch to take away his corner. He was a
little curious, but quickly settled down and laid next to the couch.
I've also put a doggie gate by the bed where he likes to go under, so
he was confused by that and slept on the bed. I will not allow him to
separate himself from everyone else.

We spend 15-20 minutes a night on petting and talking. He is on
edge, but will let me see his ears, feet and teeth.

The big thing is he doesn't like the leash or being handled by the
harness. He goes crazy like he is being injured. I am working
slowly when I move him, but wonder if anyone has any ideas.

Oh, big break through, he chewed on a bone last night.

Day 15
Yesterday was a little scary for the poor guy. He went to small dog
play hour. We built a "shallow" end just for him so he could watch the
other dogs play in the arena and feel safe. Today, he is trying to get
the other aussies to play and is sleeping under my feet, tail wagging a
bit, and I think I saw a smile!

Day 19
Well, he figured how to come in through the doggie door, but hasn't
figured out it goes both ways. I've been leaving him loose in the
house while I am at work with Mac, my mini, and he hasn't had any
accidents!! He's amazing. He understands "who's hungry" and runs to
his crate. He hangs out with me when I am on the computer. I actually
saw his belly the other day while he was playing with Major, another
mini. He was chewing through the harness, so I had to put a "big boy"
collar on him. I think he likes it. He's put on some weight. I've
also seen him smile a couple of times. Still very nervous when I am
aroud, but he will come around.

Brady is coming around more and more. I am hand feeding in the evening and he will sometimes take it from my hand if I am not looking at him. He's been sleeping on the bed more and more. His favorite spot right now is under the bed, so it's hard to love on him there. I did find
out that he likes me to read to him. At night, I've been reading out
loud to the dogs and he seems to enjoy the sound of my voice. Might be
something you want to try with some of the shy dogs. Right now, I am
dog sitting for an aussie and Brady and Luna have been playing quite a
bit. Little steps!
